The Mandalay cat is derived from the Burmese cat by
crossing the Burmese with a solid coloured domestic and conforms to the
Burmese Breed. That means the only differences you should see between a
Mandalay & a Burmese is in the coat colour and the eye colour.
The NZ breed Mandalay originally bred from Burmese is a more intense
nature and the colours are darker because they do not carry the albino
gene . A Mandalay's coat is slightly more silky in texture than a
Burmese.Their eyes are golden yellow to amber. . .. Just think of a
miniature panther

I have had great fun tracing back the family tree's of our cats. We have
been able to trace back to New Zealand's first Mandalay - Zanyminx
Ebony. Jan Parson who was one of the first Mandalay Breeders in New
Zealand has kindly let me link her page of how she started breeding
Mandalays. History
of Mandalays in NZ
From our experience we have found the Mandalay to be a great hunter.
Samantha (RIP)- Lordy's mum dragged home a rabbit twice the size of her.
She hunted mice and insisted we allowed her to take them to the
kitten run to teach her off spring her wonderful hunting techniques.
