Breeders of Mandalay & Burmese

MandaBurms

Retired Queens

From time to time we have Retired Queens available - they are much loved members of our family & this is one part of breeding we do not enjoy.

If you would like a special MandaBurms, happy to stay in contact with us, usually live semi rural & have no other cats or dogs - please contact me.

Laura will be looking for a new home end of 2010, it will be nice if she can go with one of her kittens.

  Dam: MandaBurms Laura

Laura (Seal Burmese 27)

Laura is one of my favourite cats, she will be having one more litter after this (I hope) we will keep a kitten from her & then sadly she will be looking for a new home (end 2010). I would love to keep her as a pet but she is  pretty quick to pick a rumble with the other cats & dog! SIGH She will suit a home with no other cats or dogs. Someone who likes to be in doors as Laura is known here as House Pussy, she is hilarious & will run to get inside rather than be outdoors. She is an awesome cat & deserves a brilliant retirement home where she doesn't have to be in a cattery. She needs a life of lying in the sun, in front of fire & in a bed & someone who doesn't leave bread on bench - as she makes a bee line for bread - even though he knows she is not allowed on the bench

As breeding is our hobby we do reserve the right to choose our owners.

2009 was a hard decision year, we always thought we would keep our breeding queens, but experience has taught us that as the cats have got older pecking order & cattiness happened. The younger cats wanted to be top cat & upset the others. WOW! Spey & entires together is also not a good mix. We have learnt lots in our cat breeding.

And this is one part of breeding that is not nice! We had to look coldly at which cats would be happier in a new home, we thought of many of the lovely homes our kittens went to & yes there are people out there who love animals as much as we do. And don't want to go through the kitten stage. They liked the fact they knew the adults personality & history.

Jasmine was our first queen to move on & she is extremely happy being an only cat - Heather keeps in touch and just adores & worships Jasmine.

Hi Leanne, We are besotted with Jasmine, she is an absolute delight to us. I have had many cats in my lifetime but never such a sweet natured, fun-loving, lovable cat as her!!! I can't imagine how life was before her and can't imaging how awful it would be without her. So much so, that I think I will probably end up getting a kitten as well! She isn't a hunter and doesn't wander away either. Love Heather

Briar Rose our foundation queen & much loved cat was especially hard, but she was unhappy with the younger cats pushing her off her self appointed regal throne. She didn't do dogs & the risk was high it would end badly being a pet with us. Oh how I cried & actually grieved moving her on. Briar has gone to a country home where farm dogs are caged. Heather just loves her & Briar gives her much joy & company. Briar is thrilled to be the only cat & get ALL the attention.

Both these lovely Heather's & families kindly keep in touch & it has been nice to know Briar & Jamsine are happy - jolly cats they do settle & become happy where people will pamper & feed them. It is nicer for the retired queens to have such a life - but still it is hard for us humans to let them go.

MandaBurms Cattery are animal lovers and pride ourselves in raising the standard of NZ animal breeders. Sadly not all breeders have excellent housing facilities or healthy pampered animals.

We do not agree with line breeding or in breeding - eg mating a Grandfather with a granddaughter. Our breeding program is set up so no in breeding happens - all our girls can breed with our stud - Lordy and are not related. This gives us a greater gene pool - and healthier cats/kittens.

If you are buying off a breeder please before you buy see as much of the breeders cattery first not just what the breeder wants you to see. Check to see if they line breed - see the kittens pedigree.

Check that the adult cats are housed in clean, warm and stimulating enviroment. The units are clean and smell free (stud cats do have their own aftershave!)

Ask what food the cats are being fed which should be a  diet of fresh meat & vet/pet shop quality dry food.

All cats & kittens should be free from runny eyes, sneezing, fleas, ear mites or loose, smelly stools. They should also be confident and out going when you meet them.

MandaBurms Cattery is happy to give new owners  written approval for your vet to see all our veterinary records (Your vet may charge you for his/her time)

And never  buy FROM A PET SHOP as you will have no way of knowing where your kitten has come from let alone what sort of a start it has had!

You too can help raise the standard of NZ animal breeders by only purchasing off a breeder who has  high standards of facilities and care for their breeding animals.
